A Message From Casey, Founder of Love A Sea Turtle

What began as a third grade school field trip in 2005 to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center has evolved into a passion and fun journey of discovery. Love A Sea Turtle is dedicated to marine and ocean conservation awareness by engaging students in leadership development and environmental stewardship, inspiring others to get involved in year-round service projects and conservation activities, and providing nature-based summer programs for under-served youth.

Love A Sea Turtle Initiatives

Upstream Downstream Connection: We stress the need and importance to conserve water and protect our waterways. Outdoor summer programs, River Guardians project, and monofilament recycling are components of our Upstream Downstream Connection.

Summer Programs: Founded on an educational format to trace the path of fresh water from our community to the coast. Find out more about our Global Youth Service Day and NC Science Festival events on this page.

River Guardians: Our initial 100 mile kayak journey to raise awareness of our river systems, conservation, and involvement of others in nature and the outdoors led to implementing River Guardians, a statewide stream monitoring and environmental awareness program engaging students on 4 river basins. Paint The Drain is a student-led project to create storm water awareness.

Stow It-Don't Throw It Project: Love A Sea Turtle is a statewide coordinator for this marine debris awareness and prevention initiative.
