Make Your Mark Week

During the month of October, I have been making presentations to schools and community organizations to promote Make A Difference Day. At several schools, all the students gathered to watch the NC Students Make A Difference public service announcement. During Make Your Mark Week, a presentation will be made at the Boys &  Girls Club to talk about water, recycling, the environment, and how they can help make a difference. Each participant will be given a tree to take home to plant.

Love A Sea Turtle has invited students from the Boys & Girls Clubs to participate in a fun science day at a local high school on National Make A Difference Day. We are working with A Time For Science and the Pamlico Tar River Foundation by providing water/science focused activities to engage them in environmental issues. The students will be designing their own recycle bags which have been made from coffee bean bags. We believe that students who are underserved and underrepresented do not have to be uninvolved.

With a Mark Your Mark grant, we have purchased apple trees to plant at A Time For Science. Each Boys & Girls Club in our county will be represented with a tree as well as the host high school. Once the trees bear fruit, the apples will be donated to those in need.

A food drive will also take place at the event. Our area was hit hard by the recent hurricane and a food distribution center for the needy was damaged. We have several farmers/providers bringing meat/produce to help as well as canned food items from many volunteers.

I started the NC Students Make A Difference movement to encourage students in my state to do something to make a difference and tell about it. We filmed a public service announcement and will kick it off on October 22. Here’s the link – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evDtHO_2Pfk

We’re excited about a great day that will make a difference in their lives and bring awareness to the community.
