Global Youth Service Day 2018

Love A Sea Turtle will serve as a 2018 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency, mobilizing young people to lead volunteer service projects that help meet community needs on April 20-22, 2018.

Turtle Events

The Turtle Team has been busy from summer camps and leadership development programs to creating and expanding their own environmental focused initiatives. Recent events have included World Water Monitoring Day, Make A Difference Day and Family Volunteer Day. To date, over 6,000 youth have participated in our outdoor nature-based summer programs, 12,000+ monofilament recycling containers have been assembled and distributed, thousands of students have performed water testing throughout the state, and over 1,000 storm drains have been stenciled.

Making A Difference LAST

75 volunteers helped Love A Sea Turtle clear debris, clean up River Park North from the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, assemble monofilament recycling containers, and stencil 47 storm drains on Make A Difference Day. Thank you Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement, Eco-Pirates, Boys & Girls Clubs, and our Turtle Team!

River Guardians Expansion!

Our River Guardians project engages students, schools and hub sites located on or near 4 river basins throughout North Carolina. New sites include Forsyth Country Day School, Bath Elementary School, River Park North and North Carolina Estuarium!

NC Author

What a treat for some 6th graders! NC eco-mystery author, Bonnie Doerr, was hosted by Love A Sea Turtle to share her writing inspirations with students as a part of our NC Science Festival events. The classes had read one of her books, Stake Out, prior to attending the active presentation and Mrs. Doerr read an excerpt from her soon-to-be-published book, Tangled Lines.
