Friday: Bake Sale
National Week of the Ocean wouldn’t be complete without a bake sale to raise money for your favorite ocean conservation group. Check out the Great Bake For Oceans’ Sake to help you get started.
Thursday: Watch a Sea Turtle Video
For today’s National Week of the Ocean posting, watch my educational sea turtle video while enjoying a cup of Fair Trade Organic Sea Turtle Blend Coffee, a featured blend for April. Joe Van Gogh donates 10% of net profits to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center.
It’s your turn now: have a dream, make a plan and get going…because they’re counting on us!
Wednesday: Speak Out For The Ocean
Top 3 items I’ve found on recent beach clean-ups: cigarette butts, plastic bottles & balloons. They need to be kept off the beach and out of the ocean. 8 year old Amie Koporc would like your support by signing a petition to prevent mass balloon releases. Click here.
Tuesday: Volunteer
Today’s post for National Week of the Ocean – VOLUNTEER. Be an advocate for the ocean and its marine life! Spread the word about sustainable seafood – download a regional Seafood Watch Pocket Guide.

I was recently invited to share my sea turtle work and STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) summer camp information at the Oak Ridge Associated Universities Conference in Oak Ridge, TN. Also participating in the event were Evelyn Brown and Cindy Putnam Evans, representing ECU’s Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education.
World Water Day – March 22
I volunteered at a “Walk For Water” event on World Water Day. Participants walked 4 miles carrying 6 litres of water in a backpack. This was to create awareness of what so many people around the world do on a daily basis just to get water.
