I was selected as a Youth Emcee for the National Youth Leadership Council’s Service Learning Conference held in Denver, CO. During the Thursday plenary session, speakers included Kaitlyn Smith and Danielle Liebl from Special Olympics, Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell from the Dept. of Education, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, R. Dwayne Betts, and Steve Culbertson, President and CEO of Youth Service America.
Steve Culbertson, Youth Service America, discussed Global Youth Service Day and R. Dwayne Betts spoke about youth taking the initiative to make changes in the world. Kaitlyn Smith and Danielle Liebl from Special Olympics shared how their connection as best friends has helped them inspire others. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper delivered an official proclamation declaring March 16 to be National Youth Leadership Council Day. Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell from the Dept. of Education stated “we have to believe that every child can succeed; we all can live without limits.”
The National Service Learning Conference will be held March 13-16, 2013 in Denver, Colorado and brings together nearly 2,000 educators, state and federal officials, young people, program coordinators, policy-makers, and community-based organizations from around the world.
