Dr. June Atkinson
Dr. Atkinson is the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for North Carolina. She graciously made time to meet with me. She learned more about my sea turtle work and we discussed some possible plans for NC students. Stay tuned…
Building A Grassroots Organization
I was asked to participate in the 8th Annual J.Y. Joyner Library Paraprofessional Conference at East Carolina University on May 13. The theme was “Captains & Crew Collaborating”. I spoke on “How To Build A Grassroots Organization”. The group of attendees was very interactive. We had fun and exchanged some turtle stories, too!
Endangered Species Day
The 3rd Friday in May is designated as Endangered Species Day. Think about what you can do to create awareness and volunteer on May 20. There are 6 species of sea turtles found in US waters and they are protected under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. We must help them L.A.S.T.
Sea Turtle Awareness
I visited Mr. Reed’s 2nd grade class at Snow Hill Primary School to talk about sea turtles. The students were so cute and they asked great questions. I love their Sea Turtle Board!
6th Grade Science
I was greeted by a Welcoming Committee when I arrived at C. M. Eppes Middle School for a presentation to their science class.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

After Orlando, I went to Washington, DC for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award events. Not only did I tour DC, but I got to meet students all across the United States and several other countries. One of the best parts of these recent award events is that I was surrounded by others with a passion to make a difference. I have made so many new friends!
