Building A Grassroots Organization

I was asked to participate in the 8th Annual J.Y. Joyner Library Paraprofessional Conference at East Carolina University on May 13. The theme was “Captains & Crew Collaborating”. I spoke on “How To Build A Grassroots Organization”. The group of attendees was very interactive. We had fun and exchanged some turtle stories, too!

I visited Mr. Reed’s 2nd grade class at Snow Hill Primary School to talk about sea turtles. The students were so cute and they asked great questions. I love their Sea Turtle Board!

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

Actress Susan Sarandon congratulates Manasvi Koul, 18, of Waxhaw (center) and Casey Sokolovic, 13, of Winterville (right) on being named the top two youth volunteers in North Carolina for 2011 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

After Orlando, I went to Washington, DC for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award events. Not only did I tour DC, but I got to meet students all across the United States and several other countries. One of the best parts of these recent award events is that I was surrounded by others with a passion to make a difference. I have made so many new friends!
