A new group from the Boys & Girls Club arrived for a fun week at the Upstream Downstream Connection Camp!
Snorkeling
Snorkeling was a new and fun experience for these kids! They jumped right in and took to it so fast. The only problem was getting them OUT of the water! They discovered some fascinating sea creatures and shells.
Marine Science Adventure Day!
We headed to Topsail Island for a full day of fun – snorkeling, touring the Sea Turtle Hospital, cleaning the beach and learning with Ecological Marine Adventures. Love A Sea Turtle presented a $500 donation to Mrs. Beasley at the Turtle Hospital!
Sea Turtle Hospital Tour with Boys & Girls Club

We toured the Sea Turtle Hospital and saw all of the sea turtles. I got to see the interns and Mrs. Beasley again and gave them turtle cookies. I had fun and so did the kids from the Boys & Girls Club – another new experience!
Day 4 – Kayaking
Instruction was provided each day for a group to introduce them to kayaking. On Thursday, they put their newfound skills to work. They had a great time paddling down the river, stopping for a picnic lunch and returning by kayaking upstream.
Camp Updates
Campers have learned “How Wet is Our Planet?”, “How Important is Water”, and “What’s Polluting Our Water” through math and science activities. 1 hour each day is spent in different groups. These groups rotate each day with a different activity – water sampling/quality testing, “Water We Eating”, and kayak instruction. Thursday will be kayaking on the river to reinforce the “Upstream Downstream Connection”.
Great Bakes
Bake sales have been taking place all over. Don’t forget to send in photos and info from your bake sale. I want to hear from you! You can also post on the Great Bake facebook site.
New Sea Turtle Hospital
The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center plans to open in August. It’s going to be an amazing place!
