We celebrated Pledge to Play/Day for Kids with 5 Boys & Girls Clubs on September 15. Kids and their families played volleyball, croquet, badminton, cornhole, frisbee golf, kayaked, rode the tractor “hayrides” and enjoyed a spaghetti & salad dinner courtesy of Olive Garden! This was a day to get kids & their families to get outside together, enjoy nature and play!

7 camp counselors volunteered and enjoyed seeing the kids, playing games and kayaking together.

High school students volunteered  for the Upstream Downstream Connection Camps. This summer, 18 students served as camp counselors throughout the 6 weeks. They started out with camp and kayak training sessions in May to prepare for the camps. We celebrated our success with a cook out in August.

During one of the camp weeks, two dedicated and inspiring women came from Darien, Connecticut to volunteer. Nina, a volunteer at Darien Nature Center, found out about Love A Sea Turtle and contacted me about writing a support letter for banning plastic bags and their harmful effects on sea turtles for her community cause, Choose To Reuse in Darien. We stayed in touch, discussed the camps, and she wanted to volunteer for a camp week. She and her sister, Boo, drove all the way from Connecticut to help out! These two women are very special. They are dedicated to their causes and are true volunteers. Plus, they love sea turtles! Thank you ladies!

September 15 is a great day to be outside with our Upstream Downstream Connection campers from the Boys & Girls Clubs. They’re bringing their families to show them some of the things they did during camp week. We’ll have a great day of games, outdoor activities, kayaking and food! We’ll also be showing video highlights from the summer camps.
