Make A Difference Day – Oct. 25

Make A Difference Day was Saturday – Love A Sea Turtle hosted a beautification and garden planting at a Boys & Girls Club with about 100 volunteers! We planted mums, pansies, and vegetables, spread sand in the playground area, trimmed trees and stained new benches for seating. Cooke & Associates donated sand and poured concrete for additional sidewalks to the playground, Harvey Lewis moved the sand, Olive Garden provided lunch, and volunteers from Grady White/ER Lewis and Jarvis Boys & Girls Clubs, Men Enriching the Nation, Women of Many Enriching the Nation, Ladies of Distinction, Oakmont – Operation InAsMuch, ECU Volunteer & Service Learning Center and Love A Sea Turtle made a difference for Boys & Girls Club members.

Water Reclamation Facility Tour

With the M.E.N. and W.O.M.E.N. groups, we recently toured the Contentnea Metropolitan Sewerage Plant with Mr. Smithwick, District Manager, who discussed the entire wastewater process. We also took river water samples above, at and below the facility and tested for pH level, nitrate, phosphate, dissolved oxygen and turbidity.

M.E.N. and W.O.M.E.N.

Full day of fun with middle school groups, M.E.N. and W.O.M.E.N. – their focus is on STEM and community outreach and we’re happy to provide programs and opportunities to engage these students. We worked together on community service projects on Earth Day. Friday was kayaking, touring a water reclamation facility, water testing, snorkeling and Try SCUBA.
