Global Youth Service Day, Earth Day & Environmental Education Week!
Students attending our Environmental Symposium heard from Dr. Jamie DeWitt (ECU Pharmacology & Toxicology), Dr. Eban Bean (ECU Engineering, Institute for Coastal Science & Policy), Dr. Mike O’Driscoll (ECU Geological Sciences) and Mark Vander Borgh (NCDENR Algal Ecologist) along with a video message from ocean conservationist Wendy Benchley. Teachers participated in a special session with Shawn Moore (Center for STEM Education) and Holly Denham (Project Wet).

After hours spent kayaking, cleaning trash from the river, learning to fish, assembling monofilament recycling containers,and having fun in the rain and cold, SHEETZ provided a cook-out for all volunteers!

We discussed marine debris awareness and prevention and assembled 350 fishing line recycling containers with the help of 25 middle school students at our Earth Day event!
