Global Youth Service Day, Earth Day & Environmental Education Week!
Students attending our Environmental Symposium heard from Dr. Jamie DeWitt (ECU Pharmacology & Toxicology), Dr. Eban Bean (ECU Engineering, Institute for Coastal Science & Policy), Dr. Mike O’Driscoll (ECU Geological Sciences) and Mark Vander Borgh (NCDENR Algal Ecologist) along with a video message from ocean conservationist Wendy Benchley. Teachers participated in a special session with Shawn Moore (Center for STEM Education) and Holly Denham (Project Wet).

40 Gallon Water Challenge
Way to go Riverwood Middle School 6th graders who are part of our Neuse River Guardians project for making Johnston County the top county for saving the most gallons of water in NC. They will soon be giving presentations about the 40 Gallon Water Challenge to other classes.
Symposium
We’re working on a symposium to bring students involved in the Neuse River Guardians project together to not only meet each other, but learn from local scientists, professors and experts in conservation and environmental fields. April 20, 2015!

Chicod Water Depth Sampler Video - Chicod Middle School students are making weekly treks to a stream for water testing and data collection for our Neuse River Guardians project! Here’s their recent video using a water depth sampler to collect stream water for testing.
NRG Training Day
Love A Sea Turtle held a training day for teachers to learn to use their new equipment for our Neuse River Guardian project. Judy Day, a Vernier representative, helped us learn about LabQuest 2 and its components. Everyone’s ready to put all of this new water science equipment to good use!
