Great Bake For Oceans’ Sake

Oct. 15 – Leatherback Conservation Day!
The endangered Pacific leatherback sea turtle has been designated as California’s official state marine reptile and October 15 has been declared as Leatherback Conservation Day!
These campers participated in a second week pilot FoodMASTER program at ECU’s School of Nutrition. They learned where food really comes from – they ground the wheat to have flour to make the dough for pizza! Math & science incorporated into cooking fun!
Student Board Member
One of the camp counselors, Becca Weidner, has become a Love A Sea Turtle Student Board Member! Becca has been dedicated to the camps – she has volunteered for every camp week from 2011-2012 – and continues to inspire the campers to become more involved. She has participated in numerous Love A Sea Turtle activities and events and will be a great student representative. I know that she is going to be a big help and I’m glad to have her on my team!
Supporting Marine Science Education
Throughout the summer, Love A Sea Turtle made donations to Hammocks Beach State Park, Ecological Marine Adventures and Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center in support of their free educational programs and facilities. Funds were raised from bake sales, t-shirt proceeds, donations and Love A Sea Turtle Trail Run & Nature Walk.
